
Lucentum, Eón and Agustinos clubs to promote Alicante tourism brands throughout Spain
Alicante promotes sport and tourism through local clubs
Alicante, 6 August 2025 - The City Council of Alicante has approved €120,000 in subsidies for the city's three leading sports clubs , Lucentum , Eón and Agustinos . The funds will be used to promote tourism through the "Alicante City&Beach" and "Alicante Sports Destination" brands, which will be featured on the uniforms of the teams competing in competitions throughout Spain.
Who received how much?
According to the approved program, funding is distributed as follows:
- Eón Balonmano Alicante – €29,117.70
- Fundación Balonmano Agustinos Alicante – €30,874.51
- Fundación Lucentum Baloncesto Alicante – 60,000 €
The amount was calculated based on the number of teams and players in the 2024–25 season.
Sports + Tourism = City Development
Manuel Villar , Vice Mayor and Head of the Sports Department, stressed the importance of the project:
“We are strengthening the brand awareness of Alicante through the sports teams that represent our city throughout the country, while supporting their youth teams.”
Professional achievements of clubs
- Lucentum is the city's largest basketball club, with its main squad playing in LEB Oro , the second-largest league in Spain.
- Eón is a new member of Asobal , the top league of Spanish handball.
- Agustinos - continues to fight in the División de Honor Plata , the second division.
The financial support of Alicante sports clubs is not only a contribution to the development of youth and professional sports, but also a strategic promotion of the city as a tourist destination at the national level. Through their uniforms, competitions and media coverage, the teams will become ambassadors of the Alicante City&Beach and Alicante Sports Destination brands, strengthening the city's image as a center for active, cultural and sports recreation.
