
Summer on the move: sports for children and teenagers in Alicante
Alicante, 27 July 2025 – More than 4,500 children and teenagers are spending their summer holidays actively participating in sports camps organised in the city’s municipal sports facilities. The Mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, and the interim Sports Councillor, Manuel Villar, visited the Isabel Fernandez Club Judo training camp at the Tecnification Centre and the Apolana Club Athletics Camp at the Joaquín Villar Stadium.
The mayor expressed gratitude to Olympic champion Isabel Fernandez and other sports clubs for their contribution to the development of children's sports:
“Organizing summer camps is not only an opportunity to keep children busy during the holidays, but also a way to instill in them a love of sports, teach them important life values, and improve their health in the modern sports conditions of the city.”

Sports clubs in the city, including:
- Club Isabel Fernández (judo)
- Club Apolana (athletics)
- Lucentum (basketball)

San Blas, Playas Alicante, Atlético San Blas and others ,
offer children training and programs that complement municipal sports schools.
Where do the classes take place?
Summer programs cover almost all areas of Alicante. Among the objects used are:
- Technification Center (Monte Tossal)
- Joaquin Villar Stadium
- Antonio Valls Sports City
- Antonio Solana Fields, Samaranch, Cabo Huertas, Florida-Babel
- Swimming pools José Antonio Chicoy
- Multifunctional halls in the districts of Garbinet, Babel, San Blas, Tómbola and La Albufereta
- And from September, also municipal water sports schools
🛠 Investments in sports: modernization of facilities
Vice-Mayor Manuel Villar stressed that Alicante is investing more than 20 million euros in renewing and improving the conditions of its sports infrastructure:
- Reconstruction of the Pitiu Rochel pavilion
- Renovation of the Joaquin Villar Stadium and Monte Tossal Sports Facilities
- Construction plan for a new pavilion in the Tombol area
- Improvements in the Technification Center: air conditioning, lighting, digitalization
The City of Alicante has created all the conditions for an active and healthy summer holiday for more than 4,500 children and teenagers. Thanks to the collaboration with local sports clubs and investments in infrastructure, the city offers varied and high-quality programs: from judo to athletics. Summer sports camps not only promote physical development, but also help young Alicante residents grow up in an atmosphere of healthy habits, discipline and team spirit.
