El Speis upgrades port base and cuts response time by 30 minutes
The Fire Prevention and Rescue Service (Speis) of the Municipality of Alicante has carried out a major refurbishment of its operational base in the port , which has significantly increased its efficiency and reduced the response time to emergencies by 20-30 minutes thanks to rapid access to the sea, according to the calculations of the officer in charge, Leandro Mateo.
All services are in place
- All Speis personnel, including 20 boat captains , are prepared for water rescue operations.
- Divers ensure safety underwater.
- The new base combines two boats , previously located in different parts of the port, and a container with equipment for a diving unit of 18 employees has been installed.
“Having two boats together and the proximity of the open sea exit has significantly improved safety and service for citizens, reducing response time by about half an hour,” Mateo emphasized.
Coordination with other services
The base is located near the Civil Guard and the Marine Rescue , which allows for greater efficiency and coordination in emergency operations.
- Every day, three firefighters are sent by boat to increase security on Tabarka Island.
- The base is ready for any emergency situations at sea: fires on ships, rescuing people, helping migrants, incidents on beaches .
- Local police boats also use the new dock, and the base is equipped with everything necessary for the work of officers.
Call for accountability
Speis officer reminds owners of rented boats and jet skis about safety rules:
- Swimming within the buoy zones is prohibited.
- Alcohol is prohibited while driving a vessel.
- It is important to take into account the weather forecast.
- The captain is responsible for the safety of people on board.
“These measures help avoid potential risks for all water users,” Mateo added.
The new Speis base in the port of Alicante has consolidated boats and equipment , improved emergency response speed , increased coordination with other services and enhanced maritime safety .
