San Gabriel Celebrates 100 Years of Electricity: Candlelight Festival to Light Up Neighborhood July 12
🔥 A magical night with 2000 candles, live music, workshops and a street fair in Alicante
This Saturday, July 12 , the San Gabriel district of Alicante will be transformed into a real fairy tale with the festive event "Night of Candles" (Noche de Candiles) , dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the first electricity supply to the district (in 1925) . The event is organised by the Alicante City Hall and the San Gabriel Traders and Entrepreneurs Association .

From 19:00 to 02:00 the entire area will be illuminated: more than 2,000 candles will decorate the streets, shop windows, and squares , creating a magical atmosphere. The celebration will cover three areas: El Refugio Square, the adjacent streets, and Menendez Pelayo Square , where guests will find:

- Creative workshops for children and adults
- Fair and special offers from local shops
- Family vacation and a real holiday atmosphere

According to Lydia Lopez , head of the Department of Commerce, the event is held to highlight the importance of the history, culture and local business of the San Gabriel area . The President of the Association of Merchants, Juan Manuel Mendez, noted that “this is not just a candlelight evening, but a moment of remembrance for the entire neighborhood, a tribute to the past and a step towards a brighter future.”
