Almost 500 children from socially vulnerable families attend municipal summer schools in Alicante
Alicante, 30 July 2025. Around 500 children and adolescents from vulnerable families are taking part in the Alicante Municipal Summer Schools programme, which takes place in July in six schools and two community centres in the city.
The main objective of the programme is to provide children aged 3 to 17 with educational, recreational and social support during the summer , as well as healthy meals , including hot meals and individual places for children with special educational needs (based on the CEIP Mora Puchol school).
Where do the classes take place?
Mayor Luis Barcala and Social Welfare Councillor Begona León visited one of the schools, CEIP Óscar Esplá , where 85 children aged 3 to 12 study. They are offered age-appropriate activities: interactive games, water activities and educational activities.
The program is implemented at the following schools:
- Mora Puchol
- San Roque
- Azorín
- Óscar Esplá
- Lucentum
- Gloria Fuertes
as well as in the Felicidad Sánchez and Gastón Castelló community centres.
Schools are open free of charge from 9:00 to 14:00 (in some cases from 8:00). Children are provided with vacuum-packed lunches daily for consumption at home.
Helping those in need
According to the mayor, “Summer schools are a vital tool for social and educational support. They help children learn, play and develop in an inclusive and safe environment, creating equal opportunities and social cohesion.”
Also, thanks to the participation of specialists, it is possible to identify possible risks to the full development of the child earlier and respond in a timely manner.
