
FITCA 2025 Classical Theatre Festival in Alicante: Shakespeare, Cervantes and a musical hit
FITCA 2025: Classics on the Alicante stage
From 10 to 21 September 2025, the Teatro Principal in Alicante will become a hub of classical theatre, hosting 9 shows , including works by William Shakespeare , Miguel de Cervantes and the winning musical of the Max 2025 award .
The event is part of the 9th International Festival of Classical Theatre (FITCA) . The additional cultural program will last until September 28 at various venues in the city: Pozos de Garrigos , Casa Bardin , the Arts Center and the MACA Museum .
FITCA 2025 Main Performances
All performances will be shown at the Principal Theatre .
🔸 September 10 – “The Odyssey through the eyes of Penelope”
A free adaptation of Homer by Francisco Sanguino. The production involves the Theatre Studio of the University of Alicante.
🔸 September 12 – “Two Veronese Noblemen”
One of Shakespeare's early comedies about friendship and love. Directed by Declan Donnellan.
🔸 September 13 – “Numantia”
A monumental production of Cervantes' tragedy with 24 actors. Directed by José Luis Alonzo de Santos.
🔸 September 14 – “Farra”
A musical with elements of comedy, dance and acrobatics. Directed by Lucas Escobedo's company. Winner of the 2025 Max Award for Best Musical.
🔸 September 17 – “Icons, or the Study of Destiny”
Rafael Alvarez's one-man show "El Brujo" is a witty story about Greek myths.
🔸 September 18 – “Giton Onofre”
The story of a Spanish rogue, performed by Pepe Vijuela.
🔸 September 19 – “Sid”
The story of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar through the eyes of his brothers. With live music by La Musgaña.
🔸 September 20 – “The Crazy History of the Golden Age”
A satirical comedy about the lights and shadows of Spain during its heyday. From La Escalera de Tijera.
🔸 September 21 – “The Brave Queen”
A satirical play by the troupe Las Niñas de Cádiz.

- September 17 – “The Lost Rogue” , lecture by Pepe Viyuela at the Bardin House.
- September 23 - "Brooklyn, Calderon and Other Incredible Combinations" meeting with Daniel Alonso Piñero at MACA.

- September 22–23 – “The Insulted Skull” (Раquel López) for schoolchildren, Arts Center, 11:00.
- September 26 – “Knights of the Fish” (Juan Gamba) for adults, Arts Center, 8:00 pm.
- September 27 – “More Tales than Calleja” , family show, Pozos de Garrigos, 6:00 pm.
- September 27 – “Embers: Seven Old Tales” (Fran Pintadera), a performance for adults, 8:00 pm.
- September 28 – “Kalamitosis” , family show, Pozos de Garrigos, 12:00.
