
Alicante improves infrastructure: San Francisco street and Juan XXIII police station to be renovated
The Alicante authorities have approved a budget of €561,840 for two major urban projects : the refurbishment of the popular tourist street of San Francisco and the overhaul of the police building in the Juan XXIII district. Work is expected to start before the end of 2025.
What is planned?
1. Reconstruction of San Francisco Street (Mushroom Street)
The project provides for:
- Cleaning and repair of the coating step by step
- Painting of sidewalks and the central part of the street
- Restoration of decorative elements: 10 mushroom sculptures and 2 decorative houses
- Renovation of children's playgrounds, including 2 slides
The works will start from the area near the Calvo Sotelo square (the first 40 meters) and will move towards the Portal del Elche . The total cost is 111,841 euros .
2. Complete reconstruction of the police station in the Juan XXIII district
The project, worth 450,000 euros, includes:
- Solving problems with current structural and functional deficiencies of the building
- Creating appropriate conditions for police work
- Arrangement of changing rooms, sanitary facilities and ensuring full accessibility of the building

Naima Beljilali , financial advisor, noted:
"Alicante is not standing still. We continue to promote initiatives that improve the lives of city residents. These projects are especially important for residents and entrepreneurs."
The projects are being implemented in cooperation with the political group VOX , and the final approval of the budget will take place at the next meeting of the city council .
