
New Councillor Rafael Alemany to Head Cleanliness and Parks Departments in Alicante
New division of responsibilities in Alicante City Hall
Alicante, 1 August 2025. Mayor Luis Barcala has signed a decree redistributing responsibilities within his team, following the official entry into office of the new councilor from the People's Party, Rafael Alemany , a civil engineer. He will now be responsible for:
- Cleanliness and waste management
- Parks and gardens
These areas are closely related and, according to the mayor, are a perfect fit for the profile and experience of the new councillor .

🔹 Rafael Aleman
Cleanliness , waste removal , park improvement
"I will work with enthusiasm and pride for Alicante. Thank you to the mayor for the trust. I will give my all for the common good," Aleman said.
🔹 Manuel Villar, Vice Mayor
Receives sports and human resources , continuing to oversee:
- legal issues,
- government procurement,
- environmental sustainability.
“I am ready to continue with the same energy in new directions,” he said.
🔹 Julio Calero
Will focus on public safety and will also continue to lead:
- migration,
- volunteering,
- international cooperation.
"Alicante is a safe city, but we have room to grow. I am happy to delve into this priority."
The changes complete the team's summer reconfiguration
The reorganization completes a series of changes that began with the departure of Tony Gallego in June. Previous changes include:
- Naima Beljilali - finance and municipal property,
- Begona Leon - seniors and families,
- Carlos de Juan - youth,
- Cristina Garcia - Rural Areas,
- Julio Calero - additionally received social rights and security.
Mayor Barcala stressed:
"The aim of the changes is to maintain the pace of urban and social development in Alicante. The new structure is a logical continuation of what began in June."
New management configuration - for sustainable development of the city
The entry of Rafael Alemany into the mayor's office and the redistribution of powers in Barcala's team confirm the course towards professionalization, efficiency and sustainable management of the city . The emphasis is on experience, consistency and focus on priority areas for city residents: cleanliness, greening, safety and sports.
