🕊️ Memorial ceremony under the motto "We are memory"
Alicante City Hall held a ceremony on July 11 to mark the 28th anniversary of the death of Miguel Ángel Blanco, a Basque politician and member of the People's Party who was killed by the terrorist organization ETA in 1997. The event was attended by representatives of the city council and the Association of Victims of Terrorism.
The minute of silence was preceded by the reading of the Blanco Foundation manifesto, after which participants laid white carnations at the memorial monument on the Gran Via roundabout.
🗣️ "We will not forget. Supporting the victims is our moral duty," said Mayor Luis Barcala
The head of the city noted the importance of such events:
"Miguel Angel Blanco is a symbol of all those who suffered at the hands of ETA. We have a duty to preserve the memory, solidarity and support of the victims and their families who have endured the pain caused by hatred and terror."
Barcala stressed that the memory of the dead is not only a tribute, but also a reminder of the values of democracy:
"There are principles that are above political interests. We must defend peace, freedom and democracy."
🤝 Memory as a duty of society
The tribute to Miguel Ángel Blanco has become an integral part of the city's agenda in Alicante. This gesture is a reminder of the need to continue the fight against violence and intolerance so that such tragedies do not happen again.
