Аликанте проводит очистку под мостами N-332, в Агуамарга и на ручье Овехас

Alicante cleans up under the N-332 bridges, in Aguamarga and on the Ovejas stream

The city is preparing the riverbeds for heavy rainfall seasons and collaborating with Tragsa and CHJ

Alicante, September 14, 2025.
The Municipality of Alicante has begun cleaning work under the bridges of the N-332 national road and the railway in the Aguamarga stream area, as well as removing reeds and silt in the upper part of the Ovejas stream flood zone.

Part of the work was carried out in collaboration with the state company Tragsa , which carried out the structural intervention and cleaning of the Ovejas stream bed from the highway to the Rincon de Leon treatment plant. The municipality, in turn, completed the cleaning of the remaining section. The goal is to maintain the waterways in good condition before possible heavy rainfalls or DANA episodes .

Collaboration with government agencies

The city's waste and cleaning council, Rafael Alemany, said:

"These actions are the result of coordination between the City Hall, the Confederation of Hydrography of Jucar (CHJ) and other state entities. Tragsa has heavy equipment that the municipality does not have, and thanks to their work, the structural repurposing of the Ovejas stream bed has been possible."

Cleanup in Aguamarga and strengthening of riverbeds

This week, municipal services will continue work on the Aguamarga Creek:

  • clearing under the N-332 and railway bridges,
  • installation of a stone cushion to strengthen the riverbed,
  • Removing reeds to reduce the risk of blockages during floods.

A long-drag excavator will also be used to remove reeds and silt from the upper portion of the Ovejas Creek flood zone.

Additional measures

Municipal engineers are considering the possibility of Costas carrying out similar work at the mouth of the Aguamarga stream. A concrete box could be created there, as has already been done at Albufereta Beach, which would allow the beach to be restored more quickly after strong floods.

As for the Juncaret-Orgeguía stream , which flows into the Albufereta, cleaning work will begin in the second half of September, immediately after the end of the holiday season, so as not to create inconveniences for residents and tourists.

Keeping the riverbeds clean

Alemany stressed that in general the Juncaret-Orheguia stream is in good condition, as it is regularly used by residents to get to the beach and its bed is maintained. However, in the coming weeks a complete cleanup will be carried out up to the area of the Santa Faz Monastery.

The official recalled that the city cleans up streams twice a year - in spring and autumn, before the most intense rainy seasons. UTE Netial , the company that services the city's waste collection and disposal system, is responsible for this work.

The cleaning of the Aguamarga, Ovejas and Juncaret-Orgeguía streams strengthens Alicante's defenses against possible floods and autumn rains. The joint actions of the municipality and state structures ensure the safety of residents and the preservation of the city's infrastructure.
