Alicante launches new €8m contract for maintenance of pavements, squares and public spaces
Alicante, 7 August 2025. The city of Alicante has taken an important step towards the award of a new contract for the maintenance of sidewalks, squares and public spaces, which is almost double the previous one and amounts to 8 million euros. This is one of the largest contracts in the infrastructure sector under the direction of Cristina García. ACSA Obras e Infraestructuras presented the best technical and economic bid among five bidders, despite having to justify the abnormally low price.
The tender was attended by Pavasal Empresa Constructora, ACSA Obras e Infraestructuras, Tecnología de la Construcción y Obras Públicas, as well as two joint venture companies (UTES) - Mediterráneo de Obras y Asfaltos with Aceinsa and Asfaltos y Construcciones Aitana with Vías y Obras Aitana.
Cristina García stressed: "For the municipality of Alicante, this contract is extremely important. We are doubling the budget to provide faster and better services that meet the needs of the city."
The previous contract, signed in 2021, was worth 4.1 million euros. The new contract is for 4 years with the possibility of an extension for another year.
The contract provides for comprehensive maintenance and repair of sidewalks, square surfaces, public spaces and other elements of street infrastructure. Particular attention is paid to eliminating defects and improving the accessibility of urban spaces for all residents.
Minor faults such as damaged manholes, loose curbs or small sections of sidewalks will be repaired within 24 hours. To do this, the contractor must have at least six mobile teams ready to work daily with the necessary equipment and machinery.
The timeframes for eliminating defects are also set depending on the degree of safety risk - from 4 hours to 15 days.
