Alicante updates police fleet with 27 new hybrid vehicles

The municipality is investing almost 2 million euros in modernizing the police vehicle fleet

Alicante, 23 July 2025. The Alicante City Council has launched a tender for the supply of 27 new SUV patrol vehicles with hybrid engines for the local police. The contract value is almost 2 million euros - €1,998,137.16 to be exact - with the option of leasing.

Constant renewal of the vehicle fleet

The new vehicles will be a continuation of the modernization program, which last year saw the purchase of 10 BMW 600 cc motorcycles , and this year saw the addition of 13 more units , including an electric vehicle for Novaya Tabarka .

Julio Calero , city councilor for security, said:

"We are doing everything possible to update the fleet and ensure safety. This is part of the agreements with the Vox group, which supports our project."

What does the new purchase include:

  • 27 Hybrid SUVs for Patrol
  • 9 New Ford Kuga Cars (Available Now)
  • 6 more cars, 3 SUVs and 2 vans are expected
  • Electric car for Novaya Tabarka

Investments not only in transport

The City Council is also investing in:

  • €800,000 for new uniforms for police officers , which will be issued in the fall
  • Modern equipment : body armor, weapons, etc.
  • The new police headquarters on Locutor Vicente Hipólito Avenue – the first phase of construction will start in September. Cost of the works: €2.8 million . Opening is scheduled for April 2026 .

The Alicante security upgrade project is not only about transport, but also about improving the working conditions of employees, which means a higher level of security for all city residents .
