
📬 Alicante - Spain's Gastronomic Capital 2025 Now on a Postage Stamp
Spanish Post issues 90,000 stamps featuring chef Dani Frias' rice dish
Alicante, July 2, 2025 – The Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2025 has officially received its own postage stamp that will represent Alicante throughout Spain and Europe. The state postal service Correos has issued 90,000 copies depicting a rice dish with vegetables, a symbol of the traditional and innovative cuisine of the region.
📌 Presentation of the brand in the Azul Hall
The ceremonial presentation took place in the Blue Hall of the Alicante City Hall . The event was attended by:
- Mayor of Alicante Luis Barcala
- Director of Philately Correos Nuria Lera
- President of the Gastronomic Capital of Spain initiative Mariano Palashin
The mayor emphasized:
"This brand will be an international tool for promoting the Alicante brand and its culture, and will also be part of collections around the world. We have chosen rice as a symbol - it is our gastronomic banner."
🍽️ What is depicted on the stamp
The stamp depicts a rice and vegetable dish prepared by the renowned chef Dani Frias . This is no coincidence: rice is a key product of Alicante cuisine , reflecting both tradition and gastronomic innovation .
The stamp is printed on glossy paper with an adhesive layer , has a non-standard size - 57.6 × 40.9 mm (instead of the usual 40.9 × 28.8 mm). One sheet consists of 16 stamps . The cost of postage with such a stamp is 1.85 euros .
🌍 Gastronomy as a part of culture
Nuria Lera, a representative of Correos, noted:
"Philately is a way to tell about the values of a country: culture, history, science and, of course, gastronomy. Alicante is the hero of a stamp for the second time this year, and that says a lot."

Following the ceremony , a commemorative postmark was placed on two envelopes bearing the new stamp in the presence of officials.

The stamp dedicated to Alicante, Spain's Gastronomic Capital 2025 , is one of 87 approved by the Philately Commission for release this year. In addition to its standard use, it will be included in the Correos annual catalogue and in the personal collections of philatelists across Europe.
