
Alicante renews agreement with Generalitat for €10.9m per year for social services
The new Contract Program ensures stable funding for personnel and social services until 2028
Alicante, 14 July 2025 - The Municipality of Alicante will approve at its next meeting the Contract Programme with the Generalitat of Valencia for 2025-2028. The agreement provides for annual funding of 10.9 million euros to ensure the operation of municipal social services .
According to Begoni Leon , a social security adviser,
“This agreement guarantees stability and sustainable funding for the staff and resources needed to provide quality social services in Alicante.”
What does the Contract Program include?
The contract program is the main mechanism for interdepartmental coordination and financing of social services at the city level. It ensures:
- Maintaining the full-time staff of social service specialists
- Efficient allocation of resources
- Joint financing between the city and the autonomous community
In 2025, the Generalitat will allocate 10,891,577.57 euros , and similar amounts are planned for 2026, 2027 and 2028.
Financing of personnel and services
📌 Staff:
The General Staff will cover 70% of the personnel costs , and the remaining 30% will come from the city budget. In February 2024, 173 temporary specialists were appointed, distributed among the various departments of social services. Their salaries, amounting to 7.1 million euros, are paid under this contract.
📌 Social services:
- All basic services (within the competence of the Generalitat) are financed entirely by it.
- The city pays for:

▸ 50% of economic and technological social payments
These funds are aimed at social assistance, prevention, home care, emergency support and the development of autonomy among citizens.
