Alborada in honor of the Virgin of Remedio unites the feelings of the inhabitants of Alicante

113 years of musical tradition and veneration of the city's patroness

Alicante, 4 August 2025. The traditional Alborada in honour of the Virgen de Remedio took place in the Alicante Town Hall Square, bringing together the cultural and spiritual roots of the city. This year, the celebration coincided with the 75th anniversary of the proclamation of the Virgen de Remedio as Honorary Perpetual Mayor of the city .

Mayor Luis Barcala stressed in his speech:

"This more than century-old festival reflects the soul of the Alicantes, combining emotions, traditions and pride for their hometown."

Main stage - Symphony orchestra

The concert part of Alborada was conducted by the Municipal Symphony Orchestra conducted by Pedro Lara, celebrating the 113th anniversary of its foundation . Together with the orchestra, the choral groups of the Teatro Principal, Alicante and Mare Nostrum, as well as the Compaña Lirica Alicantina performed. Soloists: Pepi Lloret, Jesús Álvarez and Javier Rubio.

The following works were performed: “Moment de Festa” by Armando Blanquera, “Anantapur”, “Himno a Gaia”, as well as arias from operas and zarzuelas – “Caro Nome” (Verdi), “Vesti la Giubba” (Leoncavallo), “La Gran Vía”, “Doña Francisquita” and others.

End of the holiday and fireworks

The Alborada ended with the “Salve a la Virgen del Remedio” and the national anthems of Alicante, Valencia and Spain, as the midnight chimes struck.

On August 5 , the day of the Virgin of Remedios, there are planned fireworks from the Pirotecnia Ferrández and an evening procession with the icon of the patron saint, which will start at 8:00 pm from the co-cathedral of San Nicolás.
