
🏗️ Alicante renovates 14 apartments for young people in the San Gabriel area
📍 A new step towards affordable housing: a project to renew social housing stock is launched
Alicante, 9 June 2025 – The Alicante Municipal Housing Fund (Patronato Municipal de la Vivienda) has approved the refurbishment project for 14 rental apartments for young people under 35 in the San Gabriel district. The winner of the public tender was Aitana Actividades de Construcción SL , which offered the best conditions: estimate - 1,148,062 euros, completion period - 10 months .
🔧 What does the project include?
The modernization of the residential building at 1 Fernando Diaz de Mendoza Street includes:
- 🛠️ elimination of construction and engineering defects
- ⚡ energy efficient modernization (up to -80% consumption of non-renewable energy)
- 🛗 installation of an elevator and improved accessibility
- 🌐 integration of telecommunication systems
- 🏙️ improving the appearance of the building
- 🛏️ increase in the number of apartments from 10 to 14 , including one adapted for people with limited mobility
It is also planned to create a common area facing the inner courtyard.
🎯 Supporting youth through housing
“We want to facilitate the emancipation process for young people in Alicante, giving them a real chance to own their first home,” said Carlos de Juan , housing councillor.
📌 This project is part of the administration's strategy to expand social housing stock and support affordable rental housing for young people .
🏘️ Long-term plans of the city
The San Gabriel project is not an isolated initiative:
- In the final stage is the construction of 15 apartments in El Porton (Old Town)
- The plans include the construction of 220 new apartments in collaboration with EVhA (Valencia Housing Fund)
- Re-tender for 32 apartments in San Blas
- Projects in Rabasa, Albufereta and Lomas del Garbinet - more than 6,000 new housing units
💶 Project financing
To implement the project , the municipality applied for funding from the EU funds - Next Generation EU under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan . The project meets key criteria for sustainable construction and reducing energy impact.
