📅 Alicante: New school holidays approved for the 2025-2026 academic year
🎓 The Education Council proposes making October 10, April 1 and June 19 days off
Also, the San Vicente holiday has been replaced by Santa Faz - April 16
Alicante, June 9, 2025.
The Municipal Education Council has approved a proposal to add three additional days off to the 2025–2026 school calendar. The days off will be:
- 🗓️ October 10th - Friday after Nou d'Octubre
- 🗓️ April 1st – Wednesday of Holy Week ( Miércoles Santo )
- 🗓️ June 19th is the last day of school, coinciding with the Hogueras Festival
Additionally, it was decided to replace the day of San Vicente (April 28) with the holiday of Santa Faz (April 16) .
📌 Justification for choosing days off
According to María Carmen de España , responsible for the education sector:
🗣️ “The selected days coincide with important dates and allow for bridges or holiday breaks, making it easier for families to participate in cultural events and celebrations.”
Reasons for choosing:
- 🔹 October 10th – gives the opportunity for a “long weekend” after the Valencian Community Day
- 🔹 April 1st - Wednesday of Holy Week , the beginning of the Easter holidays
- 🔹 June 19 — early end of the school year due to the start of the Ogonyok holidays
- 🔹 Santa Faz (April 16) is chosen instead of San Vicente , as is customary in years when Santa Faz does not fall on an official holiday
✅ Next steps
The proposal approved by the Municipal Education Council will be submitted to the Council of Education of the Valencian Community , where the final approval of the calendar will take place.
📢 Result:
The 2025-2026 school calendar in Alicante has been adapted to the most important cultural and religious holidays in the region. This decision will make the educational process more flexible and the participation of students and their families in the traditional events of the city more active.
