Alicante accelerates construction of new El Somni specialized college
Contract worth €6.8 million provisionally awarded to Abala Infraestructuras
Alicante, 23 July 2025. The Municipality of Alicante has taken an important step towards the implementation of one of the city’s key educational projects: the new El Somni Centre for Special Education (CEE). The Contracts Committee has approved the ranking of the bidders and proposed to award the contract to Abala Infraestructuras SL , which offered the best conditions: €6,884,070.59 .
Education for all: a modern school with adapted infrastructure
The new centre will be built on a site between Avenida Isla de Corfu and PAU 2, covering an area of 10,483 m² . The project includes:
- 12 classrooms
- 106 student places
- The work will be completed within 22 months .
Education Advisor Maricarmen de España stressed the importance of the project:
"This is a decisive step in creating the center that families and children with special educational needs have been waiting for. It will have all the conditions they deserve."
What will be in the new El Somni center?
The school project was developed based on the principle of accessibility and comfort for students:
- Square layout with a central courtyard for natural light and ventilation
- Medical block : medical center, rehabilitation and sensory rooms
- Educational area : classrooms, library, speech therapist, psychologist, and social worker offices
- Functional rooms : kitchen, dining room, music, radio and television rooms
- External area : more than 1900 m² for play and green areas
In total , 3,543 m² of built-up area and 1,960 m² of external infrastructure are provided.
The Edificant Project and the Future of Education
The school will be part of the regional Edificant program of the Generalitat of Valencia, which aims to modernize and build new educational institutions throughout the province. This project strengthens Alicante's position as a city investing in inclusive education and modern teaching standards .
CEE El Somni is a step forward in ensuring equal access to quality education . The new center will allow hundreds of children with special needs to learn, develop and feel comfortable in a safe and modern environment.
