
👮♂️ Alicante beefs up security: 16 new officers join police ranks
📍 June 12, 2025, Alicante - The city held a ceremony to inaugurate 16 new members of the Alicante Municipal Police . With their arrival, the number of law enforcement forces reached 567 people . The new police officers will primarily be involved in summer patrols of the beaches , ensuring the safety of residents and tourists during the high season.

The event took place in the Blue Room of the City Hall , where the new recruits were welcomed by the Mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala , as well as the head of the Security Department, Julio Calero , and representatives of the municipality.
💬 "The police are one of the most respected and necessary city services. We will continue to strengthen its ranks, improve the material and technical base and strengthen training," Barcala noted, emphasizing the importance of human resources in ensuring public safety in the city , which receives more and more tourists every year.
He also thanked the families of the new police officers , highlighting their important - if unsung - role in supporting officers on duty.

Security chief Julio Calero noted that current efforts are aimed at:

🚓 Vehicle fleet update
🚗 The new equipment has already been put into service by the police:
- 9 BMW motorcycles,
- 9 Ford Kuga SUVs,
- 6 new patrol cars ,
- 3 four-wheel drive vehicles for rural areas ,
- 2 service vans - total value around 600,000 euros .
💼 In progress - a contract for 27 new vehicles under the leasing system, which will allow us to regularly update our fleet.
🏢 New police headquarters
🧱 Construction work on the new police headquarters on Locutor Vicente Hipólito Avenue will resume in September 2025 , with completion by April 2026. The project is estimated at 3.8 million euros and will provide:
- Modern work spaces ,
- Spacious training rooms for staff training,
- The best organization on a district basis .
🎯 Safety campaigns and high ratings from tourists
Since the beginning of the year, the Alicante police have carried out a series of information and control campaigns :
- 🛴 Control over the use of electric scooters ,

- 🚦 Monitoring the speed limit at the entrances to the city,
- 🚯 Monitoring compliance with sanitary standards and waste disposal .
📊 Based on surveys of more than 4,000 cruise tourists who arrived in Alicante in 2024, the police received a rating of 4.7 out of 5 , the highest of any municipal service.
