Alicante commissions Nerco Infraestructuras to restore castle bastion

🔧 The work will last 5 months and will transform the historical part of the Santa Barbara Castle

Alicante, 5 June 2025 - The Municipality of Alicante has provisionally approved the award of the contract for the restoration of the Santa Ana Bastion (Castillo de Santa Bárbara) to Nerco Infraestructuras . The total cost of the project is €355,328 , of which €162,203 is co-financed by the Valencian Community Department of Culture (Conselleria de Cultura) .


🔨 What does the restoration project include?

The project aims to completely reconstruct the interior space of the bastion , including:

  • 🔹 Replacement of covering and paving
  • 🔹 Restoration of combat passages (passages), parapets and the upper tier of the protective wall
  • 🔹 Restoration of gun niches (embrasures)

🚶♂️ In addition, the bastion is being transferred from a car zone to a pedestrian zone , which will significantly increase the tourist and cultural value of the site.

🕒 Completion date: 5 months .


🏗 Ongoing modernization of Santa Barbara Castle

This project is part of a large programme of modernisation and conservation of the cultural heritage of the Castillo de Santa Bárbara. The total investment in the castle's infrastructure already exceeds 3 million euros .

Other key projects include:

  • 🏠 Transformation of the Engineer's House into a Visitor Reception Center
  • 🧠 Development of a virtual museum with augmented reality technologies
  • 📡 Preparing for the sensorization of the lock - 6 companies have already submitted applications
  • 🧱 The restoration of the Albacar d'Enmig moat , part of the Santa Caterina tower , the Coloma tower , the Posterna , and the bridge over the moat has been approved
